Solace in Solitude


  • 2oz. Angostura 1919
  • Smoked sugar
  • 3 dashes of banana coffee bitters
  • Shaved coconut
  • Key lime wedge


  1. Muddle the smoked sugar and bitters in a splash of water
  2. Add rum and large ice and stir
  3. Shave coconut on top 
  4. Garnish with keylime wedge
My style of bartending is to showcase the spirit and offer flavors that compliment the spirit itself. This play on an old fashioned I think does just that. I see too many cocktails that hide the spirit with overly sweet syrups and juices. If we cannot appreciate the spirit itself than what's the point?
